Testing and Periodic Inspection in South East London

At Bristone Electrical, we understand that all electrical installations will deteriorate over time through age and use. This is why it is very important to have your electrical wiring regularly tested and inspected for faults or issues that can become dangerous.

Having regular inspections and tests will ensure that your wiring is in a satisfactory condition for the safe continuation of use. In this industry, these regular checks are known as ‘periodic inspection and testing’. After each scheduled inspection and test, you will be issued with an Electrical Condition Report (EICR) to confirm that your wiring is up to standard.

What we look for during our inspection and testing procedure:

  • Check for any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards
  • Discover any defective electrical work that needs replacing
  • Pick up any lack of earthing or bonding in your system
  • Test to see if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded

Our experienced team of electrical engineers will also carry out essential tests on your wiring and electrical equipment to make sure they are safe to use and are functioning correctly. We can provide you with a detailed schedule of circuits for your property, which can be very useful for future planned work or home improvements.

How often should we book an inspection / test?

How often you need to have your system inspected and tested will depend on your individual situation. Here are the current Health & Safety recommendations:

  • 1 year for a swimming pool
  • 10 years for an owner-occupied home
  • 3 years for a caravan
  • 5 years for a rented home

Apart from the above list of recommended timings, there will be other times where you will need to have a periodic inspection. These will include when a landlord has a property that is being prepared for letting, and before selling a property so you can pass on a full Electrical Condition Report (EICR) to the new owners, or when buying a previously-occupied property that doesn’t have an up to date EICR.
